Cory, a sitting American president was murdered in office a few years before I was able to cast my first ballot. Neither at the time of JRK's murder nor when I first voted would anyone possibly have guessed that a Secret Service agent might be gay. It was not all that long since the Red scare and the Army-McCarthy hearings. You stun me by the fact that I have the privilege of living to see a former agent or sitting Cabinet member who are gay speak out on matters of national consequence. You, by your existence, are a wondrous miracle.
I, for one, look forward to you continuing to speak out as you feel appropriate. Thank you for continuing to serve, especially the most anti-gay of our fellow Americans.
