Creative Uncertainty

If you see an article with my name beneath the title as author and think to yourself, “Uh-oh, this could be trouble,” you are in the right place. Should the thought occur to you that when you see someone else’s byline you have a general idea of which way the article is heading, however with my articles you’re never quite sure which direction we might be headed next — if it’s even possible to guess — you’re in the right place. If ever you have found the thought passing through your mind that the guy who writes this stuff is a little off center and you can never be certain if he’s left of center or right of center, you are in the right place.

I am not going to make you comfortable. Why would I change for something which does not need change? This is my second century of being a consistent malcontent. Not that I’m going to run off and start protests or riots. My days for protesting are long gone and I always found riots too psychologically and physically damaging to partake.

In these latter days a couple of turkeys have come home to roost. They’ve got me ruminating as to whether we’re feasting on the meat or the feathers.

One is that a friend finally got through to me that many writers on sites such as Medium don’t write because they actually have something intelligent and informative to say. Rather, they want to get comments and have something called getting boosted to happen to their articles to make money. They are scribblers. They are not serious writers who come to uplift their readership so much as their bank accounts.
