Expressions of God

We each express who we are to the world in our own unique way. People who openly and freely express themselves, their particular thoughts and emotions, tell the world quite freely about facets of themselves. We see who they tell us they are.

To me that they are you and experience has taught me to believe you.

There are some people we would rather not know. What they tell us about themselves and their views of the world are antithetical to our own. We may detect moods and attitudes that shock some of us. Others of us find those attitudes and the resultant behaviors dispiriting to the point of repugnant.

So much for them. I prefer men and women who are such stunning expressions of all that is good in life that they teach me how to be more me.

On the other hand, we feel we can never know enough about some people. In spite of how well we think we know them there is something about them that eludes us. They have a lightness about them, a shining brilliance. These are the people who draw us towards them, not like moths to the flame, but as gleaming examples of how we wish to live. They are models of the men and women we wish to be.

As much as we recognize that the former set of souls may be dispiriting, something within us tells us that we want to be around that last group. There is just something about them. Something we can’t quit put our fingers on.

There was a sardonic smirk on his face the evening that I met up yet again with my spiritual twin brother…
