Look How Far We’ve Come

Look behind you. It’s something we forget to do unless we think someone or something is about to upset our lives. Do it with a different intent this time. Look behind you and see how far you’ve come. Look at the spiritual progress you’ve made in your life in the past month, the past year or five years or ten years. Look at the whole of your life.

If your life is stagnant, if you feel like you’ve stopped making progress, you have the opportunity to examine why. What is the actual cause of your life coming to a standstill? Ignore any of the theoretical pretexts we make up. They are exactly that. They are theoretical, self-satisfying and made up.

Excuses are not our reality. Excuses are negativity writ large across our lives. They’re a smoke screen to cover whatever it is in our lives that shames us, that we don’t want other people to know. We try to hide behind our self-justifications.

It isn’t always easy or fun to work on making spiritual progress in our lives. It’s not a walk in the park. It’s not supposed to be. Getting away from exculpating ourselves provides us a way out of our proverbial emotional and spiritual ditch. It’s up to us to decide whether or not to resolve that we are ready for a better life for ourselves and the world around us.

The best thing about it all is that we don’t need to run or to hide. We nurture ourselves. We let other men and women who think and behave with truly positive mature spirituality nurture us. We have the opportunity to mature beyond wanting excuses or…
