Marvelous work, Jamie. You reminded me of the times I would meet different male friends from Europe or whose families were European. I had to learn that in some cultures men kiss on one cheek, both, or both cheeks and the lips. When my friends did that with me it was the same as Americans shaking hands. Visiting my WASPy family in the 1990's really blew me away. My straight brothers caught me completely off guard when they started hugging me hello and goodbye. The woman who accosted you may have thought she was doing the right thing. I wish she would have concentrated on protecting me from a couple of straight guys.
