New Impressions

Daily I listen to one person after the next give their impressions of the developments and changes they have seen in their lives. They may be discussing a matter of life changes over years or since the previous day. What we discuss are matters of both physical developments and matters of spiritual developments. Our lives do change and develop over time. Physically we become different people with each day and year. Sometimes we view life in terms of what other people can see. We want them to know about the new toys we have that we couldn’t afford a few years earlier. We show off our bigger house, the fancier car, the fabulous clothes and vacations we couldn’t previously afford.

Some people are terribly impressed by these things, whether the material goods belong to themselves or another person. Some of us just don’t care any which way. Yes, it would have been nice to have won the genetic lottery. It would have been alright to be a trust fund baby plus have the looks, breeding and whatever else we tell ourselves goes along with that.

There comes a point in life where the majority of us can either accept the fact that it never happened to us and was never going to happen, or we can be bitter and foolish. The latter isn’t exactly a way to move our lives forward, in my experience. I enjoy knowing people who are lucky sperm bank babies. I know them because of the wonderful people they are. If I have met one who hasn’t been warm, kind and generous, I’ve forgotten them. The men and women I want in my life are the ones who give away what counts most. Themselves.
