The Rebirth of the Nations

We live in a nervous time. That is not unusual. The citizens of America and around the world are living in fear that their nations are in the process of being destroyed by enemies, foreign and domestic. Again, that is not unusual.

Contrarian that I am, I am here to offer you a different scenario.

Various friends and I discuss how the populations of the world’s countries have rendered themselves ever more diminished over the course of the past one hundred and fifty years. Humans are actually diminishing themselves. Humans are diminishing the lights of their spirits, their souls. We watch as one person, family, neighborhood, city, region and country after the next pull themselves inward in fear and trepidation. Life in general and life on a daily scale has changed so much that most humans feel like they are stuck. They want things — life — to be the way the way they used to be. The problem with that is that no one seems able to agree with themselves or each other exactly what the good old days looked like.

Do they want to relive yesterday or do they want the days of horse and buggy? That looks nice in a photo album, but in reality those were the days of outhouses, short lives if not death before age five, disease and long hard days of working six or seven days a week. Nutrition was terrible. Refrigeration, television, radios and movies did not exist. There were no streetlights because there was no electricity. There was no central heating and air conditioning. Weekends and holidays as we know them were nonexistent.
