Wealth
We can be wealthy in a base currency that no longer has value. It may be interesting to possess coinage from medieval China, the Mayan empire or a tenth century Bohemian king, but what is its value in the grocery store or at a gas station? What can it get you at your local fast food joint?
The physical world has its wonders, but is it ultimately the realm in which you wish to exist? There is another existence that is a far more exciting life than this physical world.
Our too often unseen domain is one where we inhabit the moment to moment sacrament of existence. The currency which lies at the center of our survival is our spirituality, that spirited spiritual life inhabiting the deepest reaches of our beings. It beats differently from our hearts. Not only does the Spirit flow through our veins and arteries, It courses through every atom of our beings.
I heard someone say that you can’t put a bandage on a bleeding artery. That is true in the physical world. If you try to staunch the flow of mystical movement in the spiritual world, you could very easily become metaphysically constipated. Any honest spirituality could become pietism or worse. What do you do if you find yourself stuck in a wraithlike religion that sucks out your spiritual luminescence? How do you return to being your true self?
The Spirit’s otherworldliness makes this world more livable. At least, this is true for some of us. This earth is not our natural setting. If once it was, those days are long gone.
I was reminded of that last night while watching an episode from The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch television series. When I looked at the landscape, I was reminded of how different it is now from what it was when I first saw it. Originally it was flat. Then some of the earth drastically rose while part remained in place. In other places shifts in the plates forced up mesas where there had been flat earth. Thus, the mesas of the American West were formed millennia ago. When we look at them now, we forget that wind and rain eroded away much of what once stood. In some places a mesa may have been twice as large or possibly larger than it is in the twenty-first century AD. What looks like slowly rolling or flat land at the foot of the mesas was once debris from the layers of rock and crust that fell.
As the earth has its sudden physical upheavals that we see in earthquakes, tsunamis and the like, the spiritual world around and within us is subject to abrupt disruptions, even cataclysms…
